When your computer doesn’t wake up from Sleep mode, it leaves you no choice but to perform a hard reboot, which might shut down some important applications at the same time.

If you’re facing this problem, try the methods in this post and see if it’s resolved.

  1. Allow your device to wake your computer
  2. Keep USB Root Hub powered on
  3. Change the settings of Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device
  4. Update your keyboard and mouse drivers
  5. Run the Power troubleshooter to adjust power settings
  6. Change computer sleep settings
  7. Disable fast startup
  8. Change power settings

1. Allow your device to wake your computer

If your keyboard and mouse aren’t allowed to wake your computer, your computer won’t wake up from sleep no matter what you do. To resolve this:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the X key together to open Device Manager
  2. Double-click to expand the categories Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click one of the items and select Properties
  3. Click the Power Management tab and tick the Allow this device to wake the computer checkbox.

Repeat the same with all devices you see under these two categories.

If the checkbox is already ticked, but your computer still can’t wake from sleep mode with your mouse or keyboard, check the next step instead.

2. Keep USB Root Hub powered on

According to some users, when your computer is allowed to turn off USB Root Hub to save power, your computer will possibly have trouble waking up from sleep. Try this method to sort it out.

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the X key together to open Device Manager
  2. Double-click to expand the category Universal Serial Bus Controllers, right-click USB Root Hub (xHCI), and select Properties.
  3. Click the Power Management tab and untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

3. Change the settings of Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device

If you’re using a Bluetooth keyboard, it seems the default setting for the keyboard is to go to sleep when the PC does, rendering it unable to wake the PC. To resolve this:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Window key and X at the same time, and select Device Manager.
  2. Double-click to expand the category Human Interface Devices. Then right-click on Bluetooth Low Energy GATT compliant HID device and select properties.
  3. Select the Power Management Tab.
  4. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

4. Update your keyboard and mouse drivers

When your computer fails to wake up from Sleep mode, one of the first things you should do is to update your graphics card driver, since an up-to-date graphics driver always ensures the best gaming performance and fewer bugs.

To update your display card driver, here’s what you can do (please note that the following screenshots are taken on Windows 11, but the instructions work on Windows 10 as well):

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and X at the same time, and select Device Manager.
  2. Double-click to expand the category Keyboards and Mice and other pointing devices. Then right-click each of your drivers and click Update driver (the name of the device can be different on your computer).
  3. Then click Search automatically for updated driver software
  4. Wait for Windows to find the latest driver available for you.
  5. When the driver update is done, restart your computer for the change to take effect.
  6. Then check and see if the problem is fixed.

This is another way to resolve your computer sleep mode issue. There are many users reporting that disabling the fast startup helps them get the computer back from sleep. Let’s see how to do:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key to open the search box. Type control panel and hit Enter
  2. Select System and Security. Click the Power Options
  3. Select Choose what the power button does from the left panel.
  4. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable. Uncheck Turn on fast startup. Save the settings and restart your computer.

8. Use SFC to troubleshoot your system

This method aims at fixing some corrupted system files that cause your computer to not wake up from sleep. Here’s what you can do:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the R key together to launch the Run box. Type cmd and press CtrlShift and Enter together to open the command prompt as administrator.
  2. Once the command prompt pops up, type the command sfc /scannow and hit Enter. (Do not forget the blank space in the command)
  3. Wait for the verification to complete.
  4. Once completed, restart your computer and printer to see if the issue persists.

Hopefully, your computer will go back to normal. If you have any other questions, please feel free to comment below.
