[SOLVED] Discord Screen Share No Audio or Sound
Many Discord users are struggling with their screen share audio. Even though the audio works fine on your PC, the viewers may possibly hear nothing on the other side.
But don’t worry, this problem is not hard to be fixed.
And here are the most common fixes for you to try. You don’t have to try them all, just start from the one that you haven’t tried before until your Discord Screen Share audio or sound is working again.
- Run Discord as an administrator
- Restart your computer
- Reset Discord voice settings
- Use the Legacy audio subsystem
- Add game activity
- Clean up Discord roaming data
- Update audio drivers
- Reinstall Discord
- Check your computer audio settings
Before we start, please make sure that you have the credentials required for login, as you will have to relog into your account if you reset your application later.
Also, if you’re trying to share a screen and then you see a warning message, telling you that the sound may not be available when sharing a screen on your device, then consider streaming another screen or application with no warning displayed.
1. Run Discord as an administrator
When Discord shares your screen, it might need administrative access on your computer. Granting elevated permissions to Discord usually resolves the issue of Discord screen share audio or sound not working problem.
To do so:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the S key together, then type Discord in the Search Box and hit Enter
- Right-click on Discord and select Run as administrator
- Check if you can screen share with audio
2. Restart your computer
In some cases, a reboot cleans up many temporary files that affect your applications, including Discord. Here’s how you can do it:
- Click on the Windows icon on the bottom left of your screen
- Click on the Power icon and then select Restart
- After that, launch Discord (administrative access recommended) and see if the issue persists.
3. Reset Discord voice settings
Some errors related to voice settings can affect Discord sound or audio sharing, and thus cause the problem. and you can fix it by resetting the voice settings.
To do so:
- When you launch Discord, Click on User Settings, a gear icon located on the right side of your avatar.
- Click on the option Voice & video. Please note down any important settings first in case you want to reconfigure your voice settings when the problem is resolved.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Reset voice settings button.
- Click on Okay in the pop-up warning.
- After that, relaunch Discord to see if the issue persists with default settings.
4. Use the Legacy audio subsystem
To reduce the possibilities of the Discord screen-sharing no audio issue, we recommend you use the Legacy audio subsystem. To do so:
- Navigate to Voice & video in User settings again.
- Scroll down until you see the Audio Subsystem category. Open the drop-down menu and click on Legacy.
- In the pop-up warning, click on Okay to quit and relaunch Discord and the settings will take effect.
- Check if you could screen share with audio. If not, move on to the next solution.
5. Add game activity
Some applications that you’re trying to share screen and audio from can’t be detected by Discord automatically. You may need to add it to Activity Status manually so as to fix the Discord no audio or sound problem.
To do so:
- Navigate to User settings again
- Scroll down in the left-side menu and click on the Activity status tab.
- If you see “No game detected” here, click on the blue Add it! link under the “No game detected” sign.
- A list of currently running applications should be expanded here. Select the one with trouble sharing audio while sharing the screen (take BlueStacks for example) and click on the Add game button.
- Once the application shows up like this, test the screen-sharing functionality to see if the audio shares simultaneously.
6. Clean up Discord roaming data
When Discord user data has built up too much over time, it may cause unexpected errors, including the screen-sharing no audio issue. Here’s how to fix it:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows Key and the R key together.
- Type %appdata% in the Run window and hit Enter.
- In the coming up folder, find the Discord folder and delete it. (If you’re using the Discord Canary build, you’d delete the Discordcanary folder.)
- Restart your computer and relaunch Discord to see if the problem has been resolved. (Please note that it may take longer than before to launch Discord, as it has to redownload some important files to make it work.)
7. Update your audio drivers
When Discord doesn’t transmit audio or sound properly during screen-sharing, one of the first things you should do is to update your audio driver, since an up-to-date audio driver always ensures the best gaming performance and fewer bugs.
To update your audio driver, here’s what you can do (please note that the following screenshots are taken on Windows 11, but the instructions work on Windows 10 as well):
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and X at the same time, select Device Manager.
- Double-click to expand the category Sound, video and game controller. Then right-click on the sound device you’re using and click Update driver (usually Realtek audio).
- Then click Search automatically for drivers
- Wait for Windows to find the latest driver available for you.
- When the driver update is done, restart your computer for the change to take effect.
- Then check and see if the problem is fixed.
If Windows says that it’s already found the latest driver for you, so no newer drivers are found, then you should consider updating your audio driver in a different way with the help of Driver Techie.

8. Reinstall Discord
When Discord screen share audio is not working, you can perform a clean reinstall. Here’s how you can do it:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the I key together.
- Click on the Apps tab, then select Apps & features on the left sidebar.
- Find your Discord version in the app list, click on it, and select Uninstall.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows Key and the R key together.
- Type %appdata% in the Run window and hit Enter.
- In the coming up folder, find the Discord folder and delete it. (Please note that if you’re using the Discord Canary build, you’d delete the Discordcanary folder.)
- Restart your computer.
- Download Discord again to your computer. (Quick-link: https://discordapp.com/)
- Log in and try to screen share with audio to check if it works.
After that, check if screen sharing works with audio. If the issue persists, then it’s recommended to check if your computer audio settings are correct or try to use a web version of Discord in Chrome or Opera.
9. Check your computer audio settings:
You’ll need to make sure that you’ve allowed screen and sound/audio sharing in your system settings.
To do so:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the S key together and type Microphone privacy settings in the searching box. Open the Microphone privacy settings returned in the results.
- Check that the “Allow apps to access your microphone” toggle is switched on.
- Scroll down the app list on the page and check that access for Discord is enabled.
- Save changes and try launching Discord to see if the issue is resolved.
Sometimes, using a recommended browser like Opera can smoothly make your screen-sharing work with audio, as Discord supports Opera and keeps itself updated in Opera.
