Warzone Not Launching on PC? 6 Ways to Fix It!
Are you having problems launching Call of Duty: Warzone? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Recently, there’re many users reporting this Warzone not launching issue, no matter how many times they restart the computer or even reinstall the game.
So today we’re going to share with you some known fixes. Please read on to see what you can do to stop Warzone from crashing:
- Repair corrupted game files
- Update your graphics driver
- Run System File Scan
- Disable 2 Citrix Services in the system configuration
- Perform a clean boot
- Disable shellcode injection detection
1. Repair corrupted game files
If there is any game file going missing or corrupted, your Warzone won’t launch properly. To resolve this issue, try to scan, verify, and repair the game files using the Scan and Repair tool. Here are the steps:
- Launch the Battle.net client and navigate to the Warzone section. Click on the gear icon next to the Play button.

- Now click Scan & Repair.

- Wait for the process to complete.
- Re-launch the game.
2. Update your graphics driver
When Warzone fails to launch, one of the first things you should do is to update your graphics card driver, since an up-to-date graphics driver always ensures the best gaming performance and fewer bugs.
To update your display card driver, here’s what you can do (please note that the following screenshots are taken on Windows 11, but the instructions work on Windows 10 as well):
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and X at the same time, and select Device Manager.

- Double-click to expand the category Display adapters. Then right-click your graphic card driver and click Update driver (the name of the device can be different on your computer).

- Then click Search automatically for updated driver software.

- Wait for Windows to find the latest driver available for you.
- When the driver update is done, restart your computer for the change to take effect.
- Then check and see if the problem is fixed.
If Windows says that it’s already found the latest driver for you, so no newer drivers are found, then you should consider updating your graphics driver in a different way with the help of Driver Techie.
Its ever-growing driver database allows you to always have access to the latest device drivers that you need. More importantly, Driver Techie simplifies the driver update process, so all it takes is just 3 clicks (for Pro users), and all your drivers are updated.
To use Driver Techie to find you the latest drivers:
- Download and install Driver Techie, then launch it.
- Click Scan Now.

- After the scan, select all the drivers you need to update and click Update All. Then all your drivers will be updated automatically without you having to do anything else.

Please note that Update All is available for Pro subscribers only, otherwise, you can only manually update the driver one at a time. To see how to manually update the drivers one by one, please check this post.

3. Run System File Scan
Call of Duty: Warzone might not launch properly because of some corrupted system files. The based System File Checker tool will repair any corrupted system files, which could also fix the Warzone not launching issue.
Here is how to run SFC (please note that the following screenshots are taken on Windows 11, but the instructions work on Windows 10 as well):
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the R key together to launch the Run box. Type cmd and press Ctrl, Shift and Enter together to open the command prompt as administrator.
- Once the command prompt pops up, type the command sfc /scannow and hit Enter. (Do not forget the blank space in the command)
- Wait for the verification to complete.
- Once completed, restart your computer and re-launch Warzone to see if the issue persists.
4. Disable 2 Citrix Services in the system configuration
Some Citrix services may cause your Warzone to not launch. Long story short, let’s see how to disable them temporarily and see if Warzone comes back to work.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the R key together to launch the Run box. Type msconfig and press Enter.

- Click the Services tab. Look for “Citrix Workspace Updater Service” and “Entry Protect Inject Service” and uncheck the checkboxes to disable them.

- Click the Apply button and click OK to exit MSConfig.
- Click Exit without restart.

- Re-launch the game.
If this method fails to resolve the Warzone not launching issue, or you don’t see these two services in the list, try to perform a clean boot as below.
5. Perform a clean boot
Performing a Clean boot for your PC might filter out a program or service that conflicts with Battle.net or Call of Duty: Warzone. To do so, change the startup configuration settings like this.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the R key together to launch the Run box. Type msconfig and press Enter.

- Under the General tab, uncheck the Load startup items checkbox.

- Select the Services tab, click Hide all Microsoft services, and press the Disable all button. Click the Apply button and then the OK button.

- Click Restart to boot your PC.

- Re-launch the game.
6. Disable shellcode injection detection
There are more than a few games using a technique called shellcode injections, which is an attack that exploits software vulnerabilities to give attackers control of a compromised machine and allows attackers to cause a buffer overflow on your system. And Warzone developers are those who chose to use this technique to launch their games.
In order to keep your computer safe from harm, most antivirus monitors all applications on your computer to make sure they do not suffer shellcode attacks. However, it always mistakenly identifies Warzone as a threat and thus, causes Warzone to not launch.
To resolve this issue, you can either uninstall your antivirus first or add the game execute file “ModernWarfare.exe” to the shellcode injection exclusion list, so it won’t be detected by your antivirus. (Please note that the exclusion list on antivirus software can be different from both your firewall allowed applications and your antivirus ignored files lists.)
The easiest way to disable shellcode injection detection is to uninstall your current antivirus and firewall, then restart your computer and re-launch the game. If your Warzone launches smoothly this time, try to download and install another antivirus or firewall instead.
If you only use the Windows Defender Firewall, follow these steps:
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the R key together to open the Run box. Type Control panel and hit Enter.

- Select System and Security and click Windows Defender Firewall.

- Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.

- Click the Change settings button. Tick both the Private and Public checkboxes for Battle.net Launcher, and then click the OK button to confirm.
- If you don’t see Battle.net Launcher in the app list, click the Allow another app button, and then the Browse button. Select the Battle.net Launcher software, and then click Open. Click the Add option, and then select all the checkboxes for Battle.net.
So, these are the solutions to resolve the Warzone not launching issue. We hope you find them helpful and relevant. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.
